
The 15 Tesla Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer offers the highest mass resolving power and mass accuracy available on any commercial mass spectrometer. EMSL users, such as systems biologists or genomics researchers, employ the 15T FTICR mass spectrometry for analyzing intact proteins or top-down proteomics to understand how protein function is regulated by combinatorial posttranslational modifications, as exemplified for instance by the Histone Code. This capability offers improved analysis of complex mixtures, such as metaproteomics for establishing metabolic capacity of complex microbial communities. EMSL is a Department of Energy national scientific user facility located at PNNL.
