Team lead Tom Metz and colleagues investigate how microbes coexist with their host organisms, such as the bacteria that are present on the surface of the skin or that line the gut, or how viruses interact with the cells they infect. To do so, PNNL researchers investigate the complement of proteins, fatty molecules called lipids, or metabolic products called metabolites made by organisms.
