Background: This device can help utilities and government agencies better assess the solar energy resource. The device was developed at Pacific Northwest Laboratory (now Pacific Northwest National Laboratory). The instrument can also be used to aid in the design of more energy-efficient buildings and to monitor atmospheric pollutants and global climate change.
