A 2003 Volkswagon TDI Jetta is driven on Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's chassis dynamometer to simulate city and highway driving of a light diesel vehicle. The resulting exhaust gases and particulate emissions are the desired product. PNNL researchers study the car's exhaust gases and particulate emissions in the laboratory to understand how to protect and improve the environment.
