
In 1998, Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant staff and Ukrainian contractors replaced bracing on the 210-foot ventilation stack between Units 3 and 4, which suffered serious structural damage during the 1986 accident. International cooperation and assistance has characterized the Chornobyl Shelter Stabilization and Safety projects, with the United States and Canada sponsoring the ventilation stack project and the Ukraine providing labor.
