Document Title: Biomarker Tools
Category: Biomolecular Systems and Science
Media Type: Graphics
Date of Image/Photo:
Background: FROM NANO- TO HUMAN-SCALE: Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are working on tools for understanding environment-disease interactions across vast scales of information, tracking them from a pollutant?s point of entry from the environment into (from upper right to lower left) a person?s organs, tissues, cells and molecules and back up the chain from the signals that toxic compounds trigger. The challenge is to develop environmental biomarkers?methods for early and quick detection, either directly or by computer simulation, of small physiological changes.
