Multiple acoustic sensors are configured along a process stream to detect foreign objects such as cartilage, metal, plastic and bone fragments. Another variation of the system includes the addition of optical sensors that further enhance detection capabilities. Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory believe the technical approach, which is available for commercial licensing, is safer and more effective than manually inspecting process streams.
