A unique subsurface experimental system containing nearly three-dozen monitoring wells equipped with sophisticated instrumentation is bringing scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory closer to determining why groundwater contamination persists in the Hanford Site’s 300 Area. The entire subsurface surrounding the wells will be comprehensively characterized to completely account for the processes occurring beneath the surface that contribute to the persistent groundwater contamination.
