The High-Field Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Capability System operates at 95 GHz and is designed not only for high-field (10 times conventional EPR), but high-power (1 kw vs. 70-400 mW), sharply reducing acquisition time. The system was designed after the premier EPR system in the world and was fabricated by EMSL staff. It will be one of only three high-field, high-capability EPR systems worldwide. This system allows study of unusual metal centers that are EPR silent such as Ni(II) and ferromagnetic systems containing manganese that are difficult to observe. The EMSL is a Department of Energy national scientific user facility located at PNNL.
