The High-Resolution Rutherford Backscatter detector was built with upgraded accelerators for high beam stability and dedicated beam lines for high-resolution RBS. Electronics were installed to enhance the accelerator stability and the 45 degree beam line section was built. An end station with a high-resolution RBS magnetic spectrometer, along with an ultra cold sample manipulator, was added to the 45-degree beam line. It can be used for fundamental scientific understanding of ion, electron and photon interactions with solids as well as offer insights into contaminant transport and biological tracer studies. EMSL is a Department of Energy national scientific user facility located at PNNL.
