The Field-Emission Electron Microprobe is part of EMSL’s Radiological Capability. It combines a high-vacuum scanning electron microscope with tunable x-ray spectrometers to produce accurate elemental compositions down to ppm levels at high spatial resolution. The instrument is also equipped with a cathodoluminescence spectrometer. It complements the PNNL electron microscopy, electron spectroscopy and surface analysis capabilities. Experiments on natural specimens from the Hanford site will provide supplementary data to efforts in microfluidics and subsurface science. EMSL is a Department of Energy national scientific user facility located at PNNL.
