Scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Chemical Imaging Initiative achieved 3D super-resolution fluorescence images of sub-cellular structures in the intact alveolar epithelial cell (related to the lungs) with 20-nm resolution using Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (STORM). They were able to develop color-coded 3D representations of the image.
