Pacific Northwest National Laboratory engineers and their industrial partners are harnessing the heroic power of nanomaterials to advance the development of lightweight hydrogen storage tanks for automobiles. Key challenges for hydrogen as a transportation fuel include the cost and size of tanks large enough to support infrequent re-fueling. The material and system improvements provided by this research aim to reduce both storage container size and cost to enable the use of hydrogen in vehicles.
